Night and Day
I am still feeling the effects of being in Haiti for 2
weeks. I’m ready for bed by 7:00 pm and awake around 5:00 am. I’m all sorts of
hungry at random times throughout the day. I have dreams constantly about our
kiddos and they seem so real…it’s as if I’m still there with them. I feel like I
don’t know what to do with myself since I’m not running around with 2 little
people, laughing, dancing and soaking in every second of their glowing
personalities. Life feels weird now.
Two weeks ago, I was TERRIFIED of losing our quiet, relaxed,
do-anything-anytime, 10 years of marriage. I had grown to love and appreciate
our life more than I ever thought I could while still enduring the gaping void
of childlessness. My how quickly things can change! Drew and I both feel like
our hearts and minds were completely re-wired in less than 14 days. It's suddenly strange that our kids aren’t with us. We
imagine them in their rooms and playing in the cul-de-sac. We miss their laughs
and practicing our Kreyol and their English. And BOOM…Just like that, in the
blink of any eye. Night and day difference. WE. ARE. PARENTS.
We weren’t really sure what to expect at the end of this
trip. Of course we knew it would be hard to leave, but we didn’t really
anticipate it feeling impossible. The
connection that formed between all four of us is unbelievably strong and we are
going to do our best to maintain that as we navigate the months between now and
homecoming. As we continue to search for creative ways to visit Haiti regularly
(without 18 hour layovers on each leg and outrageous Summer prices) we are also
prepping our home for their arrival. We have been asked countless times how someone can help and we finally have an opportunity for those of you still interested!
Since it is
highly unlikely that the kiddos would be home before Winter, we are holding
off, time-being, purchasing clothes, just in case they grow a ton! That said,
we will still need to complete wardrobes for them during the final stretch
before homecoming. And, as I’m sure you are all aware, I’m a bit of a picky
fashionista (ask my mom) so buying clothes for my kids is something I have
looked forward to my entire life. In
order to keep things simple, the best way to support any of their clothing
needs would be through gift cards. Some of our favorite kid’s clothes are at
Old Navy, H&M, and Target.
We have also started a Baby Registry on Amazon that, I’m
certain, will continue to grow as we interact more and more with them in the
coming months. If you would like to contribute any of those items, we would be
most grateful!! https://www.amazon.com/baby-reg/bri-morris-december-2017-thornton/1T5FI3DAWLCXT
The third option is visiting our Adopt
Together Page and making a cash contribution to help with the remainder of
our adoption expenses. We estimate that we still have around $15,000 in fees
(not including travel) to complete the process.
Lastly, we are working on our second adoption video in the
3-part series! If you are in Colorado, we are beginning plans for an exclusive
Video Premier Event followed by another Family Movie Night Fundraiser so
stay-tuned for more info!
And, as always, THANK YOU…For your encouraging words, texts,
and messages checking in on us and for your shared excitement in this new
(incredible) season of life! XOXO
We love you guys and are excited for this journey that you are on.
ReplyDeleteWe also cannot wait to meet them. The videos made my heart skip!
