The Night Before Christmas

It's the night before Christmas, and this year we know
That twenty eighteen means you'll finally be home.
We can't wait to hang your two stockings with care
And start new traditions in our family to share.

There's a tree to be decorated and lights to be hung;
Christmas carols to sing and garland to be strung.
We'll celebrate Jesus and the birth of our king. 

Papa playing the guitar, His praises we'll sing.

Perhaps we'll read Christmas stories in Haitian Creole
Answering all your questions..."Could it be?" "Is it real?"
You'll make lists, give gifts, and love those in need.
Always knowing, to give is better than to receive.

This time next year, we'll have matching onesies
With hot cocoa, wrapped presents, and decorated cookies.
Watching Elf, The Polar Express, and all our Christmas favs
As we wait for Santa to arrive in his sleigh.

You'll be nestled all snug in your nice, comfy beds
With dreams of St. Nick's visit dancing round in your heads.
Mama and Papa long to see eyes shining bright
As you discover the magic of this Christmas night.

Waking long before the sun rises high
You'll rush down the stairs and to your delight
Find that presents arrived while you slept so soundly.
"But how?" you may ask. "Santa really found ME?!"

With childlike faith, the magic will WOW you.
Your imagination running wild; "Could it really be true?"
Mama and Papa will look on and giggle with cheer
As we cherish the joy you've brought us this year. 

There are so many firsts we have yet to unravel
And so many avenues, together, we'll travel.
You don't know it, yet, but you're loved beyond measure
By many friends and family that your Papa and I treasure.

Have faith, my dear littles, for soon you will know
Just how special you are and as you continue to grow
We'll be on your team. We'll be your biggest fans.
Supporting you in all of your dreams, hopes, and plans.

The time is approaching when together we'll be
Forever a family: Ephraim, Isla, Papa, and me.
Being your parents is our best dream come true
